The Savannah Care Center (SCC), a crisis pregnancy center, sponsored a two-mile walk for life in Savannah’s Forsyth Park, April 10. Michelle Sparks, a counselor and board member with SCC spoke with the Southern Cross. Sparks said, “The Savannah Care Center has been in operation since 1985 providing pregnancy counseling to approximately 120 women per month.” Located at 105 E. 34th Street, the Savannah Care Center is directly across the street from a clinic providing abortions. The purpose of the Walk for Life Saturday morning was twofold. First it was held to raise funds for the independently supported organization and secondly to raise community awareness of the Center’s services. Those walking sought financial sponsors from among their friends and colleagues. Participants, many wearing tee shirts identifying the purpose of the walk, circled the park twice. The early morning activities in Forsyth Park, a Savannah College of Art and Design event, the Farmers Market, tourists with cameras and dog walkers provided an audience for the Walk for Life. Father John Lyons, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Savannah joined the crowd that circled the park at the invitation of Birney Bull a parishioner and attorney with a practice specializing in adoption law. Father Lyons said he had toured the SCC facility and found it worthy of support. Bull serves on the board of the Savannah Care Center. Bobbie Sue Beauchamp proudly wore the event’s gold and brown tee-shirt as she and her family headed north on Drayton Street. Beauchamp said she was, “participating because the center had done so much for her family.” The Savannah Care Center can be reached at 912-236-0916 or found online at http://www.savannahcarecenter.org.
