Mission Statement

The mission of the Southern Cross, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Savannah, is to help carry out the mission of the diocese through the print medium. It does so by proclaiming the Good News in the form of news articles, commentary on aspects of the faith and their application to daily life, and catechetical materials of use to those who teach the faith and those who learn it. By means of the stories and photographs carried in the Southern Cross, the bishop and pastoral staff are able to communicate with the diocesan family and the parishes are able to share their activities with one another.

The paper strives to foster the sacramental and prayer life of the faithful and to promote the values of justice and peace that pertain to the Kingdom of God. The Southern Cross reflects the diocesan mission to all the people of south Georgia, to the worldwide Church in communion with the Bishop of Rome, and to the whole human family.
