Bishop Hartmayer visits Nigeria

Bishop Hartmayer ordained 17 men to the priesthood in Gboko, Benue State, Nigeria on July 6 in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.

Bishop Hartmayer said the purpose of his trip was two-fold:

Fun, fellowship and faith at vocations camp for teens

About 70 girls and 60 boys from across south Georgia attended two camps in late June, sponsored by the Diocese of Savannah’s Vocations Office. The three-night/four-day sessions at St. Mary’s Home in Savannah were packed with traditional camp outdoor games and skits, as well as Mass, reconciliation, adoration, and devotional talks.

Priest Assignments 2013

Close to 25% of priests in the Diocese of Savannah are being reassigned this June. This major shift in parish personnel was precipitated by the retirement of the rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. According to Bishop Hartmayer, “The retirement of the rector basically started a domino effect” through the rest of the dioceses’ 79 parishes and missions.
