Accountant Scott Voynich, a parishioner of St. Anne Church in Columbus and the chairman of the Diocese of Savannah Finance Council, has been appointed to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) National Advisory Council.

Voynich will serve a four-year term as the layman representative for Region XIV of the Council. Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv. said the appointment is his last official act as outgoing regional representative of Region XIV on the Administrative Committee of the USCCB.

Region XIV covers the southeastern region of the U.S.

The National Advisory Council meets twice yearly for a three-day period prior to Administrative Committee meetings. Composed of bishops, priests, deacons, religious sisters and lay representatives of all regions of the U.S., the Council serves as a confidential advisory board to the Administrative Committee, which sets the agenda for national meetings.

On his information form for the National Advisory Committee, Voynich cited what he felt were the major religious and social issues facing the Church today:

• “The healing and restoration of laity confidence in church leadership is extremely important as we travel these difficult times of sexual misconduct.”
• “At the same time outreach to retain our youth in the Catholic faith and excite them to maintain a lifetime commitment to our faith and values is an important investment and need for our focus.”
•“Support for clergy is critical as they help us navigate the challenges of life.”

Voynich has served as chairman of the Diocesan Finance Council for the past 20 years. He has also served as chair of the St. Anne Parish Finance Council, on the capital campaign committee for the parish and as a Eucharistic minister for the parish.

He is a recipient of the Bishop Gartland Service Award of the Diocese of Savannah and the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal from Pope Benedict.

He is the managing partner of the accounting firm, Robinson, Grimes & Company, P.C., the largest in the Columbus region. He has been active on the state and national levels with Certified Public Accountants (CPA) professional organizations, including serving as national chairman of the board of directors of the American Institute of CPAs.

Voynich and his wife, Rhonda, have three children and sixteen grandchildren, all parishioners of St. Anne’s.
