Nearly 400 members of Saint Raymond Church in Alma, Saint Rose of Lima, Baxley and Good Shepherd, Hazelhurst celebrated the dedication of a new Church to serve the needs of all three communities on April 6.

The new church, a mile down the road from Saint Raymond, is named in honor of Saint Frances of Rome at the request of a generous donor who died in 1999. Maurice Adelman, Jr. bequeathed $290,000 for a parish or mission provided it was named for Saint Frances of Rome in recognition of Frances Fanny Toohey.

After consultation with the members of the Presbyteral Council and with others, Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv., Bishop of Savannah, decrees that the name of the mission of St. Raymond be renamed and from henceforth referred to as the mission of St. Frances of Rome.  The boundaries of this mission are not changing and they remain the same, all of Bacon County.  The church serving this parish is located in the city of Alma, Georgia.  This change took effect on January 30, 2019.
