Oh hi there, mom of that boy. I see you there. And not because your kid just scaled the shelves at this giant store we’re both in. I see you trying to gently redirect, to encourage him, using your best “we’re in public” voice to tell him to climb down and behave and walk properly next to you as you push the cart.

Emotion briefly overcame Father Charles Byrd during his homily commemorating the 420th anniversary of the martyrdom of Friar Pedro de Corpa and his four companions on October 24.

Last Sunday, in my position as director of faith formation, I was leading a group of parents and children preparing for First Reconciliation. Part of the lesson included the parable of the Good Samaritan. However, the resource I use, in retelling the parable, didn’t identify the helper as a Samaritan. SAVANNAH--When Capuchin Poor Clare aspirant Jessica Schira was a young girl, her mother said that she once left home to go to church—without telling anyone.

At the time, Jessica lived with her maternal grandparents in the Dominican Republic while her mother lived and worked in the United States.
