Father Jacek Franciszek Szuster, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Parish in Augusta, died on Sept. 4 after a battle with colon cancer. He was 47 years old.
Born in the city of Niemodlin, Poland on Jan. 30, 1971, Father Jacek attended the Major Seminary of the Diocese of Opole in Nysa and earned a bachelor’s degree.
Sister M. Michelle Carroll, RSM, died peacefully in her sleep at Mercy Convent in Savannah on August 24. She was 96 years old.
Sister entered the Sisters of Mercy from Haines City, Florida in 1944 at 23 years of age. Prior to entrance Sister graduated from Florida State University with a BS in Chemistry and Education and worked as a chemist in the Florida citrus industry.
Father George Gray Greenway, 91, a retired priest in residence at St. William Church on St. Simons Island, died Monday, July 23, at Marsh’s Edge home on St. Simons.
Sister Anne (Richard) Brotherton, SFCC, 90, died on June 22 in Augusta, Georgia. Sister Anne was the daughter of the late Charles Crombe Brotherton, Sr., and Annie Lenz Brotherton of Augusta and the sister of the late Charles Crombe Brotherton, Jr., and William James Brotherton. She is survived by her brother Richard Lenz Brotherton and his wife, Ann Lawless Brotherton, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
The Right Reverend Oscar C. Burnett, seventh abbot of Belmont Abbey, died peacefully in the Lord, on Tuesday evening, November 21, 2017.
His body was received at 7 p.m. Friday evening, November 24, 2017, at Vespers in the Basilica of Our Lady, Help of Christians at Belmont Abbey in Belmont. The public funeral Mass was celebrated in the basilica at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 25, with interment following in the Abbey cemetery.
Sister Noreen Dennehy was born on November 19, 1920 to John Dennehy and Mary Ann O’Brien, in Mauntenane, Killoughlin, Co. Kerry, Ireland. She had three brothers and three sisters: Margaret, Michael, Patrick, Nancy, Bernadette and John.
Sister Estelle Barron (Catherine Mary) was born November 22, 1919, in County Tipperary, Ireland, to Christopher and Margaret Barron. She had two brothers, Kevin and Paddy and four sisters, Evelyn, Betty, Pearl and Bernadette.
